At about 3pm last Wednesday, police received reports of three men in the village allegedly touting for business by handing out flyers.

Residents are being encouraged to be on the lookout for doorstep rogue traders, who may talk them into having urgent repairs carried out at their properties and paying in advance for materials.

Bogus workmen will cold call and deliberately overcharge for unsatisfactory goods and services or unnecessary repairs.

People should check the identity of any doorstep caller by asking to see an ID badge. If they are in doubt, they should ask a neighbour to come around and make checks before opening the door.

PC Simon Wolverson said: “We’re urging everyone to take notice of the crime prevention advice in a bid to stop themselves being targeted.

“Anyone who knows an older friend, family member or neighbour, please pass on the information to them too and keep a lookout for them to ensure they are OK.”
