Police to pack a punch with a return to the ring

A BOXING-based fitness scheme for youngsters in Bakewell is returning for the spring.

Free OzBox sessions are back at Bakewell Town Hall thanks to the support of the Bakewell Town and Community Trust.

It is run by the Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team and offers youngsters the chance to take part in a mixture of cardio-vascular and strength activities, including circuit training and basic boxing techniques.

Weekly sessions have been held in the town on a number of occasions and the last ones took place between July and December last year

PCSO Jon Taylor said: “The aim behind the initiative is to provide a positive activity for local youngsters to take part in, which is about improving confidence, discipline and fitness while helping us to build positive relationships with young people.”

The sessions will take place every Thursday between 6pm and 7.30pm and are open to 11 to 19-year-olds.

Under 16s must have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian, which can be obtained by emailing bakewell.neighbourhoods@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk. PCSO Taylor added: “It’s suitable for all levels of fitness.”
