Police warning after several thefts in Derbyshire village

The Safer Neighbourhood team covering the areas of West Hallam and Stanley Village are asking residents to take extra care after a number of thefts of tools in the area.

Since the weekend of January 30 and 31 there have been a number of incidents where tools and equipment have been stolen from garages, sheds and vans in the area.

Sergeant John Troup, who is in charge of the team covering the area, said: “We have been aware of these incidents and as such have increased our patrols in the area in order to try and catch the culprits, however we would also ask for help from residents by ensuring their sheds, garages, outbuildings and vans are secure and if possible their tools and equipment security marked.

“If anyone thinks that they see anything suspicious then we would ask that they call us.”

The police are telling people to make sure they protect their sheds and garages by fitting a good quality lock and alarm, padlock items inside the shed and security mark items to make them less attractive to steal.
