Police warning over hoax calls

Derbyshire Police dealt with 441 hoax calls last year - spending a total of 796 hours dealing with the false accusation.

The force said it cost around £12,000 to deal with the calls.

Inspector Kam Bria said: “Every time someone misuses 999 they are potentially putting other people’s lives at risk as it could impact on how quickly other emergency calls are answered.”
