Spending plans revealed

THE first community event to discuss how council chiefs are planning to tackle massive funding cuts has taken place.

Around 20 people attended the inaugural Derbyshire Dales District Council area community forum in Matlock last Thursday with another due in Bakewell yesterday.

Finance chiefs explained how the council is setting its budget in the face of Government grant reductions totalling at least £1.25m – a major blow of 28.5 per cent – over the next two years.

A question time session gave residents the chance to ask questions of the organisation, as well as Derbyshire County Council, police and fire bosses, and the Peak Park National Authority.
