Preacher retires after 25 years
A lay preacher who has served for 25 years has retired, following a service in the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.
Vernon Mather, 82, of Devonshire Square, Beeley, preached at St Anne’s Church in Beeley and St Peter’s in Edensor, before giving his last service on Sunday. He said: “I look forward to putting my feet up and getting in the garden.”
