Workers are busy building the biggest stage which the ground can accommodate in readiness for shows by Sir Tom Jones on Saturday night and a galaxy of pop stars including Tinie Tempah, Katy B and Ms Dynamite on Sunday afternoon.

The stage is taking three days to build, flooring was laid on Monday and fencing was erected around the stadium.

A Proact spokesman said: “There is a buzz around the place ahead of the concerts. The Elton John concert was a fantastic event and everyone is looking forward to hosting another legendary figure in Tom Jones. The younger members of staff may be looking forward more to the Party at the Proact and a chance to see the likes of Tinie Tempah, Lawson and Union J.

“Ticket sales will be well into five figures for the Tom Jones concert. It is difficult to place a figure on the Party at the Proact attendance as there are expected to be many ‘walk-up’ ticket sales.

“There is no doubt that many local businesses will benefit from the two concerts. There is an increase in hotel room bookings, for example, and restaurants and taxi companies also receive a boost in trade.

“The staging of two such big events can only be a positive thing for the town in general, helping put Chesterfield on the map!”

Tickets for both concerts can be bought by calling the Proact booking office on 01246 209765 (option 1 or ext 4114) or online at www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
