£100K invested in Peak District village’s water pipes

The water board has plans to invest £100,000 in water pipes in a Peak District village.

Severn Trent Water is inbesting the cash in a bid to improve the water supply in Winster.

Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent Water, said: “We want to make sure our customers continue to receive a reliable water supply.

“Unfortunately, the water pipes in Winster are now old and have started to leak, which could lead to interruptions in the water supply.

“To help stop this from happening, we’re investing £100,000 to install around two kilometres of new water pipes in the area.”

He added that the work could cause some disruption to the village.

Severn Trent Water’s contract partner, Amey, has already started the first phase of the work in fields and on private land in the area, and this will be complete by the end of the month.

The second part of the work will start on February 2 in Wensley Road and will last for two weeks, however the company states it won’t have to close the road.

Gareth added: “Our work will then continue on February 16 in East Bank, from Heathcotes Barn to the junction of East Bank near to the Wesleyan Reform Church.

“To keep both the local community and our workforce safe, we’ll need to close the road here until March 20.

“We’ll also be working on West End between the Brae Side junction and The Cottage from February 23 until March 6, and again, we’ll need to close the road.

“We know this is likely to cause issues and we’re working closely with local businesses and the local community to try to minimise any impact. We’re also working with local bus companies to maintain as normal service as possible.”

“We know that closing roads anywhere will cause disruption, but especially in Winster and we’d like to apologise to anyone who will be affected by this work and to ask for their patience. We won’t be there for long, but this work will help us to keep the water running for our customers for years to come.”
