PUPILS were first out of the blocks with their exercises thanks to the visit of a gold medal-winning athlete to their school.
Herbert Strutt Primary School welcomed 200-metre Commonwealth Games champion, Leon Baptiste, who put the youngsters through their paces with a training session on Friday morning consisting of leg thrusts, press ups and star jump exercises.
The event was a joint fundraising event that raised money for the school and will help further support up and coming sports stars.
A spokesperson said: “The climax of the morning was the chance for each class to race the gold medallist – including the teacher!
“Needless to say Leon Baptiste remained unbeaten and was a fantastic ambassador for his sport and an inspiration to the children who all wished him the best for Olympic selection in June.”
