A new queen has been elected to reign over the Bakewell Carnival.
14-year-old Jade Shimwell was announced ‘queen elect’ by the Bakewell Carnival Committee.
The teenager will be crowned ‘queen’ on the day of the carnival, July 7, marking the end of a week of festivities, which begin on June 30.
Activities during this time will include Jack Russell racing and a wheel barrel race.
Alan Dennis, a member of the committee, said the carnival has been a tradition in the town for many years.
“The girls take a lot of pride in the role – they all take it quite seriously,” he said.
Ellie Dodds, aged ten, was named ‘carnival princess’, and six-year-olds Lilly Gilmore and Chleo Butterworth were both named ‘rosebuds’ .
