Queen visits Matlock in 1968

The streets of Matlock are lined with people waving flags and cheering as Her Majesty the Queen’s car made its way through.

This photograph was taken as Her Royal Highness travelled along Dale Road by car on her way to Lea Mills in May 1968.

It was displayed in a souvenir booklet of the visit published by the Matlock Mercury, which was submitted to the paper recently by Ernest Raynes.

The 63–year–old, of Matlock, was working at the mill at the time of the special occasion and saw her wave at him as she arrived.

The booklet included pictures of Queen Elizabeth admiring merchandise made at the mill.
