Radiation is not the issue

Whatever the arguments against wi-fi in Hall Leys Park may be, I can assure Phyllis Wayne that radiation is not among them (Mercury letters, August 9).

Intensive studies of mobile phone use have failed to show any danger, and unlike wi-fi, the phone transmitter is held right up against the head.

The real danger posed by computer use in public is social- each user sealed in their own little virtual bubble, oblivious of interaction with the real humans around them.

But this problem is pervasive in our society, and won’t be cured in Matlock.
