Rescue team save injured Peak District walker

The 44–year–old man, from Doncaster, had been walking when he twisted his knee, aggravating an old injury preventing him from continuing.

At the time of the report some Edale team members were fundraising in Edale village and so equipment and personnel were soon on there way up the valley.

Buxton team were engaged at Dove Holes Carnival as well as an open day at their Dove Holes base, however still managed to deploy two vehicles and nine members to assist with the casualty evacuation.

The casualty was assessed by an Edale Team doctor before being packaged and placed onto a rescue stretcher and carried down Grindsbrook Clough to Edale village. He later made his own arrangements for transport to hospital.

The Buxton team was called on Sunday morning (August 24) to Glutton Bridge on the Buxton to Longnor road, following a report of a collapsed walker on Parkhouse Hill.

The walker, a 67–year–old male from Leicester who was walking with his family, had a known medical condition and became exhausted whilst climbing Parkhouse Hill.

Team members quickly climbed the steep limestone hill and located the ill walker on the summit. He was treated on site and given oxygen. As the casualty began to improve he was placed onto a rescue stretcher and gently evacuated down from the summit, using back ropes to steady the stretcher into Dowel Dale from where he was taken home by his family.
