A Sporting legend took time out of his busy schedule to spend some time with Matlock youngsters this week.
Five time Olympic gold medallist, Sir Steve Redgrave, visited pupils at St Joseph’s Primary School, in Chesterfield Road.
The champion rower made the visit as part of the Matalan Sporting Promise, which supports sport and PE activity in schools.
He took an assembly with the entire school, before taking part in some sporting activities with the year six students, who are aged ten and 11.
Sir Steve was impressed with the enthusiasm of the youngsters and their excitement at having the Olympic Torch come to their town.
He said: “It has been a really enjoyable morning and it’s fantastic to see the kids having so much fun playing a range of sports.
“This is such a huge summer of sport and it’s vital we continue to support the teachers running PE lessons across the country in the future.
“Sport has a unique ability to transform young lives and that’s why I am so delighted to be able to support the Matalan Sporting Promise programme.”
