A shopping outlet is preparing for a Jubilee bank holiday bonanza.
Peak Village Outlet Shopping Centre, in Rowsley, will host free activities on Monday to keep the whole family entertained – culminating in best crown competitions and six unique murals celebrating 60 years of the Queens service and reflecting local community.
A party atmosphere will be under way with face painting for younger children, Jubilee themed craft activities and of course the competitions to design a crown fit for a Queen.
As the countdown to the celebrations gathers pace, Peak Village has commissioned local artist Nick Hersey to work alongside local schoolchildren from Rowsley Church of England School to create unique Jubilee Murals.
Children have been hard at work on their ideas for the murals, which will be presented and displayed at Peak Village Outlet over the Jubilee weekend.
As part of the Mural project, groups of local schoolchildren have been encouraged to adopt a decade from the 1950s through to the present day and with Nick’s guidance, illustrate Queen and country at that period in history.
While the children are covering national events including fashions, culture and key dates from history, there is a focus on local events and history from Rowsley and the Peak District over the same period.
