PLANS to transform the old Matlock Lido into a temporary car park are being opposed by the Highway Authority.
It has been proposed that the derelict building be bulldozed to make way for 70 spaces on the land.
The idea was first mooted in September just weeks after the old swimming pool closed.
Until a decision is made on the future of the land off Imperial Road, it was suggested it be used to help alleviate the town’s parking issues.
However, the Highway Authority refuted any need for any additional parking, claiming the Co-op car park and spaces off Bank Road are under utilised.
They also say the proposed entrance to the car park is unsuitable, sharing the same entrance that buses use to access the station and would create safety issues.
