Organisers of the saved Wirksworth Parade have expressed their “joy and relief” that the weekend was such a huge success.
The event, which was held on Bank Holiday Monday, formed part of a whole weekend of fabulous entertainment – organised in an extremely short time frame by a dedicated new committee.
Sally Smart, chair of the Wirksworth Parade Committee, said: “The whole weekend was absolutely amazing. So many people turned up, the weather was fantastic and everybody really enjoyed themselves.
“Obviously, we were up against it, but I’m so proud of what the new committee achieved. Pulling off this event was one of the best experiences of my life.”
Less than one month before the parade took place it looked as though the event would have to be cancelled.
But following the hard work and dedication of the new team – all was “far better than expected”.
Sally said: “Working with the new committee was an absolute joy. Hopefully we’ll be working together for many more years.”
