School bid for funding

SECONDARY schools across Derbyshire will be invited to bid for up to £20,000 to improve GCSE results.

Derbyshire County Council has written to all the schools it maintains, inviting them to bid for money from the £860,000 pot if they can come up with a good idea.

The Derbyshire Performance Premium is designed to ensure all the county council’s school have at least 35 per cent of pupils achieving grade A* to C in at least five subjects. Cllr Mike Longden, county council cabinet member for education, said: “There are three key challenges to address, which are: English and maths attainment; closing the gap for vulnerable groups; and ensuring English, maths, science, humanities and a language – are up to speed.”
