School to get new classrooms

Money from a housing developer is to be spent on expanding a Buxton primary school.

Derbyshire County Council has agreed to release section 106 agreement money - given by housebuilders to provide extra school places for families moving into new houses - to fund a two-classroom extension at Harpur Hill Primary School.

The developer will provide £237,720 towards the scheme, in respect of a housing development on land at Temple Moor in Harpur Hill, with the remainder (£42,500) coming from the county council’s budget, the authority’s cabinet agreed on Tuesday.

The Trent Avenue school currently has 341 pupils, with enough room for up to 350, but the expansion will meet a forecasted rise in numbers to 362 by 2019.
