Matlock Bath theme park Gulliver’s has been helping kids across Derbyshire get fit as part of a council-run healthy eating programme.
Ashfield District Council and Amber Valley Borough Council have both joined forces with Gulliver’s to help roll out their ‘Healthy Schools’ initiative to more than 80 primary schools across the region.
The programme aims to educated Derbyshire children about healthy eating and help them to discover new, fun ways to keep fit.
Gulliver’s is visiting each of the schools in the district to run ‘Get Active’ sessions with theme park mascot Leonard the Lion. Each session is planned and choreographed by Gulliver’s entertainment team, led by Jenny Bentley.
Jenny said: “We’re having a fantastic time getting out and about meeting lots of local children - our sessions have gone down a storm with the kids and having a dance along with their favourite theme park characters is a great way to get their heart rates up and let off some steam!”
Each pupil receives a free ticket to visit Gulliver’s Matlock Bath.
Gulliver’s managing director Julie Dalton said: “As part of our ‘Get Active’ campaign we’re always looking for ways to encourage kids to increase their activity levels - this partnership has been a great opportunity for us to do that.
“We hope the free tickets help families enjoy an affordable, healthy day out - thanks to our beautiful hillside location, our ‘Get Active’ activity schedule and healthy meal options a day out at Gulliver’s is a great way to keep fit!”
