ACE baker Emma Mitchell is set to unveil a culinary first - with the launch of the world’s first Bakewell pudding cupcake.
In keeping with tradition, she is staying mum about the ingredients of her confection, which will be launched this weekend in the hometown of its famous namesake.
She’s not even shared the secret recipe with her family, despite hubby Robert and sons Benjamin, 8, and Oliver, 4, being taste-testers. “They are my toughest critics,” she said.
“Fortunately, they like them.”
Emma, a professional cake maker, will showcase the cupcake at Hartingtons School of Food in Bakewell, on Saturday, July 21. She said: “I am quite excited but a little nervous.”
Chris Horne, joint director with Julie Ryalls of the school at Rutland Mews, said: “Julie and I are really excited about Hartingtons School of Food being able to host what we genuinely believe is the launch of this world first. I know Emma has been working night and day to develop this trailblazing cupcake.”
A labour of love which began when Emma started making birthday cakes for her sons, became a full-time profession two years ago.
She set up the home-based business Emma Mitchell Cakes, at Redwood Close, Hollingwood, after her husband was made redundant from his job as a trainer with Virgin Media.
“We decided to give it a go,” said Emma.
“Robert has mainly been doing the promotion and marketing but I have been teaching him baking and sugarcraft.”
The cupcake will be launched at a pop-up art gallery, featuring Pearl the cartoon character, and afternoon tea experience, from 10am to 3pm.
