See the hidden gardens of Wirksworth

Wirksworth residents will soon be opening up their gardens to the public as the town gears up for its Hidden Gardens and Courtyards event.

This annual event, which takes place on June 29 and 30, has become a must for garden lovers and those who just like to wander through gardens and take time to enjoy sipping tea and biscuits in beautiful places.

An added attraction in this lovely Derbyshire town is the views that are revealed from many of the gardens and spaces. Live music is an added attraction and the opportunity to enjoy the variety of shops and places for lunch – including the local brewery – that the town has to offer.

A slightly later date has been chosen to give visitors the opportunity to enjoy the gardens with a wider variety of flowers.

The gardens are open from 12pm until 5pm on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 20. Tickets, in the form of badges, are £4 for adults (under 16’s free, concessions £3.00) and will be on sale at 3 venues – Orchard House, St John’s Street; the Care Centre, Greengates Caldwell Street and some local shops.

All proceeds will go to support local charities and activities including Wirksworth Care Centre and Study Guatemala, a charity supporting education for children in Guatemala City.
