Derbyshire police said: "A collision between Ripley and Coxbench is causing traffic chaos. The A38 southbound is closed and traffic is tailing back to Watchorn island at Alfreton.

"The incident occurred at 8.50am this morning involving a car and motorcycle.

"The rider of the motorcycle has been taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with serious injuries, but not thought to be life threatening, and we are working with Highways to remove the backlog of vehicles and get the road clear."

There is still a heavy amount of traffic so drivers should avoid the area if possible.
