For two days packed with family fun, you can’t beat Bakewell Show - just ask the event’s 60,000 visitors!
And this year, organisers are adding a new dimension, a special Equestrian Day on Tuesday, August 6, the day before the official show on August 7-8 - to accommodate new classes including dressage and ridden heavy horses.
The centre ring attraction will showcase Gullivers’ Carnival Spectacular, a brand new entertainment from the Stampede Stunt Company.
This fast-paced all-action Victoriana trick riding show will be presented by the eccentric ringmaster - stilt-walking, traveller showman Oliver Gulliver.
Professional performers, both human and equine, will amaze visitors with their trick riding, roman riding, rearing, falls, drags, sword fighting, humour, action, stunts and drama.
Another new attraction is an area dedicated to the Emergency Services. The county’s Air Ambulance will be bringing the fuselage of a helicopter for young visitors to sit in and also be putting on rescue demonstrations. The Fire Service will also be demonstrating, as will Edale Mountain Rescue.
Derbyshire Police Ozbox initiative will also be in the area which can be found near the horticulture tent.
Bakewell Show is known as the ‘friendly show’ with something for everyone; hundreds of champion animals in the cattle lines, speciality food, giant vegetables and fantastic flowers in the horticulture section and an Open Dog Show - a qualifier for Crufts.
The latest cars are on show together with treasured vintage examples and for shopaholics there is a range of trade stands. There’s even a beach where the kids can have fun with Punch and Judy, donkey rides and candy floss.
Children under 16 get in free and adults booking before the show get a special discount. Log on to www.bakewellshow.org or call 01629 812736.
