The ‘Meet the Buyer’ event is being held on Wednesday 4 September at The Whitworth Centre on Station Road in Darley Dale between 8am and 6pm.

Work is due to start shortly on our two £8 million community care centres − one adjacent to the Whitworth Hospital in Darley Dale and the other in Market Place, Heanor.

The two community care centres, being built for Derbyshire County Council by Mansell Construction Services Limited, will offer a range of services for older people including specialist residential care.

The Meet the Buyer event is being held by Mansell Construction, and its representatives will join our officers and officers from Jobcentre Plus to meet local tradespeople and talk to them about opportunities for their businesses during construction.

It is hoped local businesses will play a major part in both projects and the council and Mansell Construction are keen to try to provide employment and training opportunities, including work experience and apprenticeship opportunities.

Traders will be asked to submit ‘expressions of interest’ in the work they would like to be considered for and all bids will go through a tender process.

A wide range of construction jobs are available on both sites for companies of all sizes, from joinery, steelwork, tiling, windows and doors to landscaping, fencing, cladding, plumbing, security grilles and shutters.

Deputy Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Greater Heanor member Councillor Paul Jones said: “The new community care centres are major construction projects and offer a real opportunity for local tradespeople, no matter how large or small their businesses are.

“We are committed to using local labour and are particularly keen to hear from businesses that are offering work experience and apprenticeship opportunities.

“I will be going to the Meet the Buyer event myself and hope local businesses will seize the opportunity to be a part of these exciting projects.”
