This week we are launching a new competition thanks to an idea from the owner of Matlock’s pet shop.
It’s called Watch The Birdie and we are asking you to send in your photographs of wild birds you may have seen in your garden or while you were out walking in the countryside.
John Purdon, of Nose 2 Tail, who is sponsoring our Pets On Parade Contest, suggested the idea because he reckons there is a huge interest in wild birds amongst his customers.
“At this time of the year there is lots going on on our bird tables and it would be great for people to be able to share what they see,” he said.
He is offering an £20 voucher prize to the winner and two £10 voucher prizes for the runner ups. The prize can be spent on wild bird food in his store.
To be in with a chance of winning one of the prizes all you have to do is send us a picture of a wild bird that you have taken.
We would prefer it if you sent us your entry in a digital format by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please put wild birds in the subject box so it stands out from the rest of our emails and you will need to include all the information asked for in the coupon below ie your full name, address and phone numbers and where you took the picture and a bit about the bird if you can.
Please make sure that your picture is saved as a Jpeg attachment and is not more than 1mb in size. This makes it easier for us to publish the pictures.
If you don’t have email then don’t worry you can still enter just send your print or disk to 4 Firs Parade, Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 3AS.
I am afraid we cannot guarantee we will be able to return your picture but if you include a stamped, addressed envelope we will endeavour to do so once the competition is over. The closing date for entries is April 5.
A panel of judges including John and Mercury editor Amanda Hatfield will then pick the winners.
All the normal Matlock Mercury competition rules apply.
