WINTER returned to the Derbyshire Dales as heavy snow brought chaos to the region’s roads.
Temperatures plummeted to near freezing and heavy snow began to fall in the early hours.
It led to roads in some parts being closed, with some on higher ground being described as “impassable”.
The A54 at Buxton is closed in both directions between the A537 junction and the A53 Leek Road junction and the A515 Buxton Road in Ashbourne is closed in both directions between the B5035 King Street junction and the B5056 junction.
Traffic is moving slowly along the A6 Bakewell Road at Buxton both ways between the A53 Spring Gardens and Dale Road, while heavy traffic is being reported along the A38 because of standing water, and the M1.
There are also reports that drivers should avoid the A632 Chesterfield Road at Slack Hill.
But with the snow expected to turn to rain later today, and temperatures set to rise, motorists are being warned to drive safely because of standing water.
