So where is the North?

Where is the north? A national debate has been sparked after Helen Pidd, the Guardian’s northern editor, revealed on Twitter that Britain’s government seemed a bit hazy on exactly where the north referred to.

James Wharton, the new minister for the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ policy said the exact extent of the north is not prescribed by the government.

This revelation plays into all sorts of prejudices about how little London knows of the rest of the country.
