The news was even tweeted by Ben Cubby, deputy editor of The Sydney Morning Herald in Australia.

Others were amused that I, Michael Broomhead, had broken the news. Despite speculation, I didn’t break the brooms. They weren’t related to me, either.

Tracy Skill said on Facebook: “It’s still criminal damage regardless of what was broken.”

The crime happened at Eyam Cricket Pavilion sometime between 9pm last Sunday and 9am the following day.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call Derbyshire police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
