Sports day at Highfields School

Sporty students at Highfields School have been battling it in the annual sports day recently.

Over 800 students participated in traditional track and field events and team games at the Lumsdale site on July 5.

Enjoying summer weather, youngsters were motivated to win as many points as possible for their house – Aeris, Terra, Ignis or Aqua – and enthusiastic screams of support could be heard around Lumsdale.

Senior house captain for Aeris, Will MackMersh, said: “Helping to organise sports day has been such a great experience. Organisation skills, working under pressure, meeting deadlines and being responsible for events; I have learnt such a lot from this and it’s fantastic to see such a successful day with everyone enjoying themselves.”

John Redhead, head of PE at Highfields, said: “I have been immensely proud of our students today. They have shown real sporting talent and also a great attitude, trying their best and supporting each other. There has been a brilliant atmosphere at school today. Competitive sport is alive and well at Highfields!”
