Student wins corporate design competition

A Dales business now proudly displays its new logo, designed by a budding artist from Lady Manners School.

Earlier this year, Litton Property Group approached Rachel Gaunt, head of art, to invite students to take part in a design competition.

The competition was for students to design a logo for the company’s recently completed £500,000 Kingfisher Building on the Riverside Business Park, Bakewell.

A detailed design brief was prepared and submitted to Year 10 art students, who were given 4 weeks to work on their concepts.

On receipt of the entries the judging panel — Mark Twelves (Litton’s MD), Helen Yates (Litton’s property manager), Jim Harrison (Thornbridge Brewery’s MD), Matt Kay (Born2Move’s MD) and Simon Turton (MD of Opera Public Relations) — met to review the students’ designs. Matt Kay’s business is taking space in Kingfisher Building and Thornbridge Brewery, due to expansion, will also be one of the building’s occupiers.

The standard of the entries was very high, as Mark Twelves explains: “We were all extremely impresses by the quality of the designs and the effort that had been put into them, and it was not an easy decision to choose the winner.

“During the judging process, and in response to the high standard of entries, it was decided that we should also have additional prizes for two runners-up. We have made a decision and we are delighted to announce that the overall winner is Charlotte Wood and the two worthy runners-up are: Finlay Goodwin and Euan Greatorex.”

“On behalf of the judging panel I would like to thank Rachel Gaunt, head of art, for taking the time to help organise this competition; I would also like to thank all the students for taking part and we hope that they have all taken something from the experience can see how skills developed at school can be very much applied (and are indeed needed) in the working environment.”

The winning logo has now been incorporated into signage that will identify the building and the design will be used by Litton for additional marketing and promotional purposes.

Charlotte Wood wins an iPad Mini and case; the runners-up each receive an iPod Shuffle.
