Students hit all the right notes at Easter show

The programme included a mix of jazz, pop, classical and traditional music.

Students performed vocal solos as well as in an orchestra, and jazz, string, clarinet, flute and folk groups.

The junior choir made up of years seven and eight students sang a Jackson Five song alone, and also joined with the senior choir for a couple of songs, including Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. There was also a piece featuring solos by Beth Harrison and Abigail Harper.

It was noticeable how much independent performance talent students displayed. Rachel Wood and Miles Oldale from year 11 performed Rachel’s own composition – the Friday Night folk group organise themselves each week to rehearse and perform.

And finally, year 12 students Sam Hall and Mitch Probert Watt each directed jazz numbers. The concert ended with a mixed choir made up of students and staff singing Cold Play’s Fix You.

Kris Rowley, head of music at Highfields, said: “Once again I’ve been so impressed with the musical talent of our youngsters at Highfields. 

“Their commitment, discipline and maturity really show when it comes to performance time and it’s great to see our students’ confidence grow.

“We are already looking forward to performing Little Shop of Horrors for our annual summer musical in July.”

Parent Jacqui Morris added: “The event was wonderful, and I, alongside many other parents, were immensely proud of all the students that put on such an amazing show.

“The pupils are so talented and I think it’s brilliant that the school go above and beyond to nurture their talent, and allow them to be creative. I look forward to July’s show.”
