Suggestions to improve service

Car parking charges are under review
Car parking charges are under review

As the Director of Planning and Housing Services clearly states (Views sought over car park charges shake up, Mercury, May 9) ‘these are sensitive areas and the review is long overdue’.

May I suggest he starts with the following:

1. Prevent parking along the frontage of the new car park to the rear of Wilkinson’s by painting yellow lines - cars that are parked there cause untold congestion.

2 Remove the the two parking spaces for taxis only outside of M&Co and make them the same as the rest - this was specifically for KWIK SAFE which was closed long ago and people are still getting tickets for parking in these spaces

3 A nominal charge for ‘free permits’ would seem fair to most people and could be worked on the same basis as bus passes (Over 60’s continue free).

4 . A charge for a second permit would be acceptable to most people who would like a second permit again at a reasonable cost ( Choice is everything)

5. Charging for Blue Badge holders is an emotive subject. I would personally increase disabled bays by a further 10%-15% once these are full then Blue Badge holders would be required to pay if they wish to park.
