The site is the brainchild of the team at www.hillarys.co.uk. Called ‘The Year You Were Born’ the online tool offers visitors the chance to select the year that they were born from between 1916 to 2016 to see how much their weekly essential grocery shop would have cost them and the highest grossing film and bestselling single from their birth year.

Tara Hall, spokesperson for www.hillarys.co.uk, said: “The great thing about this tool is that it converts costs for various items from as far back as 1916 into today’s equivalent – giving users the chance to see what various purchases would’ve cost them in the year they were born compared to now.”
