Team in charity swim

NINE members of a sports team took to the icy waters of the River Derwent to raise more than £1,300 for a good cause.

Matlock Water Polo Club presented the money to Mary White from the Chesterfield–based Tiny Tim Trust at the team’s Christmas dinner.

Members raised the money by completing a sponsored 1,500 metre swim in the river at Matlock Bath earlier in the year.

Mary commented: “This could provide two to three wheel chairs and is a tremendous boost to us.”

Club president Jim Evans also took part the Great North Swim in the Lake District, raising £200 towards the Alzheimer’s Society.
