A teen has got his hands dirty in order to pay for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Africa.
15-year-old Max Clarke, of Greenfield Lane, Milltown, organised a sponsored litter pick around Ashover to fund his trip to Malawi.
In just under seven hours he had picked up enough rubbish to fill eight large bin bags - including car wheels, old tyres, bits of car bodywork, a prop shaft, shoes and a large amount of dog mess.
He needs to raise almost £3,500 to pay for the World Challenge trip in July 2013 with fellow students from Lady Manners School in Bakewell.
While in Africa, they will help to construct a new building and water facility for a traditional Malawian school.
The litter-pick is just one of a number of initiatives Max has planned to raise money for the trip.
Sponsorship forms and collecting tins have been placed at the village Tuck Shop and Post Office for use by local supporters.
Anyone wishing to help Max with his appeal can send a donation to ‘Max Clarke’ at Greenfield Farm, Greenfield Lane, Milltown, Ashover, S45 0HT.
