Temperatures could soar thanks to '˜Spanish Plume'

Temperatures are set to soar by the middle of July thanks to a rare weather phenomenon.

Forecasters have predicted temperatures could hit 30 celcius by the middle of the month - with the heatwave potentially lasting until August.

Although forecasters can never be certain - their prediction is based on the arrival of a phenomenon known as a ‘Spanish Plume’.

It occurs when hot air moves to northwest Europe from Spain or the Sahara and can cause temperatures to soar.

As well as a dry heatwave, the warm air also has the potential to cause severe thunderstorms.
