A mountain rescue team had a surprise visit last week - from one of the people they had rescued.
On Sunday, August 28, Derby Mountain Rescue Team were at Dovedale as part of a fund-raising and awareness day, when a recent casualty dropped in to say thank you.
Last month Sarah Mercer, 18, was climbing at Black Rocks near Cromford when she fell 25 feet off a ledge onto rocks.
She sustained fractures in her face and skull and was evacuated by the team and taken to hospital by air ambulance. She was discharged from hospital a week later and has gone on to make a full recovery.
Sarah and her family were en route from Wigan to Sheffield when they decided to make a detour to come and say thank you.
Sarah has no recollection of her fall, but many of the team members on duty at Dovedale were part of the rescue operation and were only too happy to meet her and her family and to see how well she is doing.
Sarah’s sister Helen ran in the Blackpool Hilton Half Marathon on Sunday, September 4, raising funds for the team.
