Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Thursday, June 19, how Danielle Bradley, 24, had distracted a member of staff with enquiries about a breast pump before she was seen running out of the store with a basket full of goods valued at £499.96.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “A member of staff had been speaking to Bradley when she asked for a breast pump and they were distracted while making enquiries and then a member of the public said they saw Bradley run out of the store with the basket of equipment.

“She was not stopped and the stolen property was not recovered. She was interviewed by police days later and she said she had picked up items and walked out with them.”

Bradley, who has previous convictions of a similar nature, pleaded guilty to stealing electrical items after the incident in May.

Kirstie Sergeant, defending said: “She attended the store to buy toiletries for her and her children. She considered purchasing them and realised she didn’t have the money and then she formed the intention to sell the goods on to provide for herself and her children.

“At the time she was on benefits and finding it difficult to survive as a single mother. But she has since set up a business providing hair extensions. She can now provide for her children which she has wanted to do all along. She strongly regrets her actions.”
