Things going swimmingly at community pool project

A community–run swimming pool has planning permission to extent it’s current facilities.

Wirksworth Swimming Pool plans to improve its changing facilities, office space and cafe area.

In order to do this the pool, which operates as a charity, needs to secure £572,000 to fund the scheme.

The pool team hopes the majority f the money can be sourced through grants.

If successful, £143,000 will still need to be raised as the pool’s contribution to funding.

Pool manager Glyn Booth said: “To raise such a huge amount we will require the help and support of all our customers and local people.

“So far a fantastic team of parents, pool users and friends have come together to form a fundraising committee.

“They have already designed and distributed a quiz locally, and have many more ideas include nail painting, fashion show, disco, sale of swim nappies at the pool.

“We welcome more help, and would ask if anyone knows of any potential funding streams we could apply to, to let us know.”

Anyone wishing to help out can attend the pool’s next meeting at 7.30pm on December 3 at the Hope and Anchor pub in Wirksworth. For more call 01629 825704.
