Third arrest for Cromford robbery

A THIRD man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Dales bank nearly 26 years ago.

Officers from Matlock CID arrested the 66-year-old man in Brinsley, Nottinghamshire, on Thursday, June 9 on suspicion of robbery. He has been released on bail.

In September 1985 raiders burst into the Cromford branch of Lloyds.

A 61-year-old security guard was left with serious injuries after allegedly being hit with the butt of a gun and the bandits made off with £7,500.

The robbery sparked a massive manhunt but no one was charged until July last year, when officers held Alan Murray, 59, of York.

He was jailed for ten years in December after admitting robbery and having an imitation firearm.

A 63-year-old man from Ironville, arrested last month on suspicion of the robbery, remains on bail.
