Three praised

Three members of the Sir Joseph Whitworth Centenary Festival received awards in gratitude for their efforts during the year.

Making the presentations was treasurer Andrew Derbyshire who praised everyone for their efforts and handed over to Iris Wagstaffe a 1911 Whitworth Scholarship Medal.

The medal had originally been awarded to Frederick H Johnson, who later received the Victoria Cross.

Mrs Wagstaffe was co–ordinator of the festival and her deputy was Kay Bacon, who received a Victoria cup and saucer from the crockery set used when the Whitworth Institute opened in 1890.

For his fund–raising help Cllr George Draper received an inscribed tankard.
