Jason Ellis, of Park Avenue, Shirebrook, pleaded guilty at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court to recklessly destroying a glass window at the Wheatsheaf pub, on Stockwell Gate, Mansfield.

The court heard this month that Ellis, 28, had been asked to leave the pub after he became a nuisance to customers on the evening of May 14.

Pub staff heard him shouting in the street outside, according to the court, and this was followed by the sound of breaking glass downstairs.

The court heard when they went outside they saw the window had been smashed and Ellis had blood on his hands.

The incident was captured on CCTV. Ellis admitted causing the damage.

He told police he had been asked to leave the pub, but although he had been drunk he felt he had not done anything wrong.

He said he had been out with friends around Mansfield and had ended up in the Wheatsheaf.

After the landlady Julie Wilson had asked him to leave, he said he went outside and flicked the window and never expected it to smash.

Ellis said he regretted his actions and accepted that when someone had been drinking they might think their behaviour was okay when it was not.

The court outlined how others perceived his behaviour to be worse than he thought it was.

Ellis was sentenced to a community order with a curfew to run for one month. He was also fined £110 and ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £291.50 compensation.
