Tots created a piece of history in their nursery grounds – by burying a time capsule.
Toys, a recipe book, paintings and a copy of the Matlock Mercury were among the objects buried by Treetop Nursery pupils at the site on Chesterfield Road.
The nursery hopes the objects will give students of the future a unique insight into life today.
The project was part of a year of celebrations, as Treetops Nursery marks its 20th anniversary.
Nursery manager Helen Dashfield said: “The children had lots of questions about why we were putting together the time capsule and what was going into it.
“We talked about grandparents and also about how they might be mummies and daddies themselves when it is found, for them to get a gist of time.”
Treetops also buried items they think will help future generations learn about nursery life in 2011, including the nursery’s lunch menu, weekly newsletter, cutlery and drinking bottles.
