AN EXTRAVAGANZA of yuletide cheer brought hundreds of festive folk into Wirksworth over the weekend.
A timetable of tinsel-draped events is already underway and Saturday proved a busy one which saw a farmers’ market, live music, a craft and produce fair, the Christmas tree festival followed by a peace ceremony in the memorial gardens and a lantern procession to Market Place led by BMW Brass Band.
Deputy mayor of Wirksworth, Cllr Mike Ratcliffe, said: “The town looks really festive and has that Wirksworth character about it. There’s a great community spirit.”
The festive events continue with Wirksworth Heritage Centre hosting free family fun sessions this weekend, a flood-lit carol service in Middleton Millennium Garden on Tuesday and the Middleton School Christingel on December 19.
