A mystery shopper from the national Green Flag Award visited Holmebrook Valley Park in the last few weeks and commended the area.

The judge found the site was well kept and well used, the play area was in a good condition and the park was litter free.

They highlighted some areas for improvement including having more benches and a few signs that need cleaning or replacing.

The Green Flag Award is run by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign and recognises top quality parks and open spaces.

Holmebrook Valley Park, which is owned and maintained by Chesterfield Borough Council, received its Green Flag for the third time this summer.

Councillor Chris Ludlow, the borough council’s executive member for environment, said: “We are very proud of our parks and open spaces in Chesterfield and Holmebrook Valley Park is no exception.

“We are pleased with the judges’ feedback on the park. It is well used and much-loved by residents and is a credit to our staff and the Friends of Holmebrook Valley Park group which cares for it.

“We look to build on this success by addressing some of the points for improvement which were raised.”

Holmebrook Valley Park plays host to numerous events and activities all year round.
