Snake Pass is no longer closed, according to Derbyshire County Council.

The authority said the route shut at 4pm yesterday because of ice and snow.

However, the road is no longer listed as being closed on the council’s website this morning.

The Snake Pass Watch Twitter account warned drivers: “Woodhead Pass is the much safer option this morning with only damp roads to worry about. Snake Pass was hardly visible across the valley!”

Cars were reportedly stranded on the Snake Pass on Friday night as snow fell.
