Edale fell runner rescued after fall

A fell runner had to be rescued after sustaining a suspected leg fracture during a fall in the Edale area on Sunday.

Members of Buxton and Edale mountain rescue teams went to the aid of the man, from Sheffield, who was competing in a local race when he lost his footing on a rocky section of path at the top of Grindslow Knoll.

Team members provided shelter from the weather for the casualty and treatment including pain relief and splinting, before stretchering him some two kilometres, down steep slopes and across rocky tracks, to a waiting ambulance in Edale.
