Tributes paid to young men killed in crash on M1 near Derbyshire

Tributes have been paid to two young men – named locally as ‘Codeye and Tyrone’ – after a fatal collision on the M1.

Two men died after a vehicle they were travelling in left the northbound M1 near Woodhall – between junction 30 for Barlborough and junction 31 for Sheffield – just before 7.30pm on Sunday.

The motorway was closed in both directions for a number of hours in the aftermath of the crash.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and an air ambulance were deployed to the crash scene.

Details of the casualties have not yet been released by South Yorkshire Police, but the two casualties have been named publicly online by heartbroken friends in tributes to the pair.

Posting on Facebook, Scarlet Scothern shared an emoji of a broken heart and wrote ‘RIP Codeye and Tyrone’ under a video of the men shared online showing them travelling together in a car.

Ella Stewart said: “Lost for words. Too many great memories. Rest easy up there."

Lenny Fraser added: “RIP Codeye, RIP Tyrone. Thinking of both families at this sad time.”

Paying his respects, Brendan Beebe posted: “RIP lads always, never forgotten.”

Callum Boulby added: “RIP lads, gone but never forgotten.”

Katie Mwatati described the death crash as ‘heartbreaking' and added: “You will be missed boys.”

Police spent hours at the crash scene carrying out investigative work to try to piece together what led to the fatal collision.

Enquiries are set to continue on Monday.
