At 9am on Saturday, narrowboat Birdswood will be lowered into the water at Cromford Wharf.

Once crews are trained, trips will be running every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from the wharf to High Peak Junction and back. Passenger services should start in late August.

FCC Chairman, Matthew Rogers, said: “Without the support of Derbyshire County Council, who dredged the canal last winter, this would not have been possible. We would like to thank DCC and all our supporters. This is an exciting time.”

This project is being supported by the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) and is part-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

Matlock’s councillor, Andy Botham, said the boat trips will be another attraction to draw people to this part of Derbyshire.
